In this class, you will learn to follow the commonly used amigurumi instructions, the general concept & construction, key crochet technique, final assembly and some great tips and tricks.
The fun is limitless as you create your own amigurumi creature.

Lace Bobbin

The Old Guesthouse POTorchon lace is one of the oldest laces, and is common to many lace-making regions such as Belgium, France, Italy, Saxony, Sweden and Spain. Due to its simplicity, torchon lace is generally the first lace a lacemaker learns to make, and has been since at least the 19th century.
Making Bobbin lace, thread is wound onto bobbins that are then moved through only two stitches, in the class students will will be working half stitch which is much easier for working in wool.

Short Rows

Carcoar Primary SchoolIn knitting, a short row is a row that is not fully knitted; the work is turned before reaching the end of the row. When working short rows, technique must be employed to prevent holes or gaps where the work is turned.
There are several ways to do this; among the most common are (1) Wrap and Turn, (2) German short rows and (3) Japanese short rows.

Carcoar Primary SchoolThis fun two-hour class will give you all the skills you need to knit your own Fair Isle project from the many traditional and modern patterns available.
We will examine a variety of stranded colourwork examples. You will receive extensive class notes and learn how to knit with one yarn in each hand or both yarns in your preferred hand. You will learn how to organise your yarns so they never get tangled, and how to make the pattern stand out consistently from the background. You will also learn how to trap floats on the back of your work. You will receive a solid grounding in class and have ongoing support both in the class notes and the recommended videos to reinforce what you learn.

Continental Knitting and Reading Graphs

You will learn two different ways to purl and how they can help you become a faster, more efficient knitter.

Eco Dyeing

One hour sessions throughout the on the Stage of the School of Arts HallUsing a spindle to spin yarn goes back to very early human history. It uses simple tools and easily obtainable fibre to make a yarn that can be knitted, woven and crocheted.
This simple introduction spindle spinning gives you a chance to try out a spindle, make a bit of yarn and get some information on the basic requirements.
There will be spindles available to try out and fibre will be provided for you to use and take away your own sample.
You will be able to purchase a drop spindle Kit (includes a drop spindle and some fleece) at the Merchandise/Raffle Ticket tent.

Cockelshell Shawl

Carcoar Primary SchoolLearn how to knit this beautiful one skein shawl that is a perfect addition to your wardrobe or a gorgeous gift to someone dear. Based on the traditional Shetland Cockleshell stitch pattern, the Fichu is long and narrow, easy to wear and fun to knit.
In this workshop we will go through all the steps and skills necessary for the project: long-tail cast on, cable cast on, knit decreases, yarn over increases and dropping stitches. There will be time to practice everything so that at the completion of the workshop you will have the confidence to continue working on the project on your own. A video tutorial is also available for later reference and a printed pattern is included.

Introduction to 1 & 2 Double Knitting

Double knitting has two right sides to the work, with the two yarns travelling inside the double knit piece. It can be stocking stitch on both sides, reverse stocking stitch on both sides, or a combination of the two.
We will be learning one colour double knitting, then two colour double knitting, and then we will learn how to knit a picture or pattern from a chart, with the image reversed on the other side.

Portuguese Knitting

Different from the more well-known English and Continental methods, in Portuguese knitting the yarn is fed and tensioned around the neck (or knitting pin) leaving hands free to held the needles. Stitches are formed by looping tensioned yarn around the needle using the thumb.
