The River Flow Scarf

Developed by Vera Marcu

“When I was asked to create a design for the River Yarn Festival, I immediately thought of a botanical theme. Every day I find inspiration and strength in nature, I love the way plants are perpetually looking for light and nourishment, persevere through adverse weather, and know when it is the time to bloom. My scarf takes the knitter through a journey of starting again, growth and making new connections, with the ever-present reminder of the beauty of water and how rivers bring communities together.”

Developing the colours for the River Flow Scarf Kit

When developing the six shades for the scarf kit, I began by looking back on my pictures from the 2023 River Yarn Fibre Festival and reminiscing about the weekend. Carcoar is a lovely place, and the people are just as lovely. We had such a great experience visiting Kentucky, and one of the colours is inspired by the incredible Maidenhair fern Libby and David have there. The weather was fantastic, and the town was beautiful in the sunshine. Other inspirations were images of the Stoke House, plus the beautiful pottery we all loved at Carcoar Pottery. Finally, I took inspiration from the beautiful bright colours we all brought together during the yarn festival. The market areas were so bright and fun, and full of inspiration with all the lovely yarn! I hope that these colours will inspire those who choose to knit the gorgeous scarf.
