Learn to Knit to Fair Isle
Saturday
10:30 am – 12:30 pm
Carcoar Primary School
Would you like to learn to knit with two colours at the same time? This fun two-hour class will give you all the skills you need to knit your own Fair Isle project from the many traditional and modern patterns available.
We will examine a variety of stranded colourwork examples. You will receive extensive class notes and learn how to knit with one yarn in each hand or both yarns in your preferred hand. You will learn how to organise your yarns so they never get tangled, and how to make the pattern stand out consistently from the background. You will also learn how to trap floats on the back of your work. My goal is that you will receive a solid grounding in class and have ongoing support both in the class notes and their commended videos to reinforce what you learn. Whilst you can work Fair Isle designs with both colours in the same hand, holding one colour in each hand is truly a game changer!
Included: Class notes, reference videos
Please bring along:
• Two colours of 8 ply wool, not superwash, one colour significantly darker than the other.
• One short circular needle, or two double pointed needles (DPNs), a little larger than you would normally use. Please note that needles with end stoppers are not suitable for this class.

Learn Two-Colour Brioche Knitting
Saturday
1:00 pm – 4:00 pm
Carcoar Primary School
Would you like to learn how to create beautiful two-colour brioche knitting? This class will teach you how, starting with the basics - brioche knit and brioche purl - and then moving on to learn the four-part dance that creates this fabulous two colour, double-sided fabric. We can then experiment with increases, decreases, and repairing a dropped stitch if desired. The class notes include detailed instructions, step-by-step photos, and video references for you to continue to learn after the class.
What to bring:
• Two colours of strongly contrasting 8 ply (DK) yarn, one light and one dark
• One short circular needle or two double pointed needles. Single point needles with knobs are not suitable for this class. Choose the size you would normally use to work ribbing with your yarn
• Crochet hook and one removable stitch marker
Homework: Please set up your swatch as follows…
• Cast on 23 stitches with your lighter colour
• WS: [P1, k1], p1
• RS: [K1, P1], k1. Repeat this rib pattern for 4 rows, ending with a RS row
• Put a marker on the right side of your work

Continental Knit and Purl
Saturday
Time TBC
Carcoar Primary School
Come and learn Continental Knit and Purl with me at the River Yarn Fibre Festival in April 2026.
This knitting style is worked with the yarn in your left hand rather than the right. The movement is smooth, efficient, easy on your hands, and enjoyable. We will explore the knit stitch and three versions of purl – standard, combination, and Norwegian. All give similar results, but you may find you prefer one or more over the others.
Continental knitting is fabulous alongside English style knitting to work two-handed stranded colourwork (fair isle). If you enjoy fair isle knitting or would just like to build your continental knit and purl skills, this class is for you.
Included: Class notes include step-by-step photos and links to videos to help you continue to practice after class.
Material to bring: Please bring one ball of 8 ply yarn and any needles to suit
Skill level: This class is suitable for confident beginners and beyond, who already have the basics and would like to expand their knitting skills.
